When we’re wrong,
we say so.

The Artful Age makes mistakes. When we do, we correct them quickly, transparently, and on the same page where the original error appeared. This page explains how we handle corrections and how to flag one.

How to request a correction

Email corrections@brownbrothers.io with the article URL and a short description of what needs correcting. The more specific you can be (the exact passage, the source for the correct version) the faster we can act.

We review corrections requests against the available evidence. Material errors and substantial revisions are corrected with a dated note on the article explaining what changed. Minor fixes that do not change what readers were told may be made quietly, without a note.

What counts as a correction

We correct all factual errors, including the small ones readers are kind enough to point out. Material errors and substantial revisions carry a dated note explaining what changed. Minor factual imprecision, spelling, formatting, broken links, replacement of a source link where the underlying claim is unchanged, and clarifications that do not substantially change what readers were told may be corrected silently. Where an article’s central premise cannot stand, we withdraw it and, where appropriate, leave a notice at the original address.

Updates vs. corrections

Sometimes the world changes after we publish — a launch slips, a person changes roles, a study is retracted. We update articles to reflect the new state of facts, and indicate the date of the most recent update. Updates that materially change the original article’s conclusion are treated as corrections.

When we won’t correct

We don’t remove articles for editorial reasons unless they contain a serious factual error we can’t fix in place. We don’t adjust pieces to reflect later reader disagreement with a position, only to fix verifiable factual errors.
