A husband and wife
at the helm.

Three Co-Publishers stand behind the publication. Graeme and Jeanette Brown — grandparents, lifelong educators of words and of people — serve as Editors-in-Chief: the stories we choose, the standards we keep, and the kind of family magazine we want to be.

Publishers

Three Co-Publishers.

Justin, Lachlan, and Brendan Brown publish The Artful Age as part of Brown Brothers Media. Editorial direction on this title sits with Graeme and Jeanette below.

The story

Coming home to the family studio.

This magazine began with kids' art, process crafts, and creative family life. It has grown into The Artful Age: later life, family across generations, and the creative habits that keep people connected. The craft archive still lives here. The centre of gravity has moved with the readers.

We have always believed creativity belongs at the centre of family life — not as a Pinterest performance, but as the quiet ways people notice each other, repair, remember, and grow. That belief needed stewards who had lived it across decades, not just written about it.

Graeme and Jeanette Brown are that pair. Husband and wife. Parents of Lachlan Brown, who writes for this site and helps build the wider Brown Brothers Media network. Grandparents who understand childhood from both ends of the table. Between them they carry a classroom career, a second act in coaching and writing, and the founding of The Expert Editor — Australia’s leading online editing company — where precision with language is the whole job.

Together they oversee editorial direction here: what deserves the page, how carefully claims are checked, how warmly a piece can speak without losing honesty. The house byline is the desk voice. Named writers own their pieces. Graeme and Jeanette hold the compass.

Editors-in-Chief

Two editors. One direction.

Graeme Brown

Editor-in-Chief

Graeme Brown

Graeme Brown is Editor-in-Chief of The Artful Age alongside his wife, Jeanette. A founder of The Expert Editor, Australia's leading online editing and proofreading company, he has spent a career refining other people's words — and now brings that same exacting eye to a magazine about family, creativity, and the years that shape us.

Together with Jeanette, he helps set the publication's direction: what stories deserve space, how carefully they are sourced, and how honestly they speak to parents and grandparents who want more meaning at home.

Jeanette Brown

Editor-in-Chief

Jeanette Brown

Jeanette Brown is Editor-in-Chief of The Artful Age with her husband, Graeme. A writer, retired education leader, and career coach based in Australia, she spent decades in classrooms and leading education teams before turning to the questions that stay with people across a lifetime: purpose, identity, creativity, and the small daily choices that help a family feel connected.

She writes across the Brown Brothers Media network and at jeanettebrown.net, and now helps steer The Artful Age as grandparents — bringing classroom wisdom, second-act clarity, and a deep respect for the creative life of children and the adults raising them.

How we publish

Desk bylines, named writers, editor review.

Articles under The Artful Age Editorial Team or a house column are planned, sourced, drafted, and reviewed under the Editors-in-Chief. Named-writer pieces reflect substantial individual authorship, edited to the same standards. We use AI tools in research and drafting. An editor reviews every piece before it publishes.

Read our Editorial Policy and Corrections process.
