This is birds nest craft is an easy spring or Easter activity for kids. It makes a sweet decoration and can even hold Easter eggs!

This simple and fun spring craft for kids also doubles as a charming table decoration. With just tissue paper, glue, and a bowl for shaping, children can create their own cozy nests—perfect for the season!

Layering and molding the paper gives the nest a natural, textured look. And once dry, these nests can hold Easter eggs, tiny toy birds, or other seasonal treasures. Since they are so easy to make, your kids can make as many as they like, each one special and unique!

Our birds’ nests are bright, but you can make yours as subtle or as colorful as you like, depending on the tissue paper you use.

Here’s how we made these sweet and simple nests.

How to Make a Birds Nest Craft

MATERIALS

  • Small bowl
  • Plastic wrap
  • White school glue mixed with an equal amount of water (This is an affiliate link, so we may earn a commission if you buy. It costs you nothing extra.)
  • Colored tissue paper

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Wrap your bowl

    Turn your small bowl upside down and cover the outside with plastic wrap, tucking it up inside. Set the plastic-covered bowl over some more plastic wrap or over another non-stick surface, like a plastic placemat.

    Mix equal parts water and white glue and pour into a small bowl.

  2. Create your nest

    Tear off a piece of tissue paper and scrunch it up. Dip the crumpled tissue paper into the glue/water mixture, then stick it to the plastic-covered bowl.

  3. Keep going!

    Repeat until the bowl is completely covered.

    Note: We’ve also tried using Kleenex rather than craft tissue paper to make white nests. It works surprisingly well!

  4. Let dry

    Let dry. It took a couple of days for our nests to dry completely.

    Once the bird nest is completely dry, pull the bowl out of the nest, then pull out the plastic wrap.

You can use the nest to hold a few Easter eggs or it makes a lovely addition to the dining table or a Spring nature table!

Or, if you’re like us, you could go crazy with this and have a whole series of bird nests lined up along the center of the table.
